Balancing Food with Thought
An author that helps to keep me centered in life is Dr. Wayne Dyer. For example, his book, Being in Balance, delivered some powerful messages on addictions and eating that caused me to stop and think about both in a new way.
I agree with his message to eliminate the words "fighting" and "conquering" when talking about our addictions and food. In its place he says to embrace the Law of Attraction in a positive light, meaning attract good things to you as a replacement for the opposite.Harmony and well-being with food is a goal that we all seek. Still, the negative inner voice that never shuts down hampers that ability to reach our goal. Instead of having a negative relationship with food, maybe it’s wise to simply love this addiction, thus helping us to move to the acceptance and appreciation of ourselves, regardless of where we are in this journey of addiction with food.
Its okay to marvel and ooh and aahh at the presentation and taste of food. We NEED this nourishment. The human body is amazingly resilient. Even as the pounds pile on, we are still able to get up in the morning and experience the wonders of Mother Nature’s work. Our heart self corrects with normal beats after experiencing arrhythmias due to the additional pounds we carry. Our livers continue to perform even though they have become fatty. Our kidneys wondrously eliminate waste through all of this. So, although we know change is imminent and necessary, it doesn’t mean we can’t respect and love what we have right now.
It’s time to get what we do want rather than the unwanted. Pessimistic inner and outer chatter and beliefs won’t help us with that journey. We must learn to reframe the inner voice and to handle the outer voices that sway our thinking. We become teachers as we prepare ourselves to be positive. We eliminate words such as, "I’m so fat", "I hate myself", "Others think I'm disgusting", "I can't do this", I'd rather die", "Why me, God?", or, "I deserve to be punished".Perhaps a higher source will provide guidance in this direction of balance. If so, go with that flow. Immersion with optimistic thoughts is desired. Listen to cheerful music. Watch movies and television shows that portray good things. Read encouraging and upbeat books. It’s important to have the right kind of help when we choose to make these constructive changes in our thoughts, words, and deeds. However you can make that happen is what counts. What have you found to work in changing your thoughts, words, and deeds? What doesn’t work? Share your stories!
